Both 'quality' and 'innovation' play vital roles for businesses to remain competitive in the marketplace. Broadly speaking, quality aims for high and sustainable performance in existing business areas, while innovation aims for a breakthrough in business areas. Both concepts are in some ways mutually dependent – an organisation has to be innovative in solving problems to achieve quality and has to have the quality backing to deliver a sustainable innovation. Both concepts are also in some ways mutually paradoxical – quality appears to require conformance to a standard whereas innovation suggests a deviation. Yet, it is in the twin pursuit of quality and innovation that a business continues to keep ahead of its competitors.
IJQI serves as a platform to encourage the creation of knowledge and the exchange of information on the issues of quality and innovation that businesses face. In particular, while we are interested in issues of quality and issues of innovation, and how each may be achieved, we are especially interested in how quality and innovation may be integrated into a coherent and powerful strategic package, and the dilemmas and tensions faced in pursuing quality and innovation concurrently.
Of course, the issues of quality and innovation involve complex and intricate challenges for leadership and management, such as organisational change, culture, processes and technologies. Moreover, the challenges faced may differ from industry to industry and from country to country. Therefore, the challenges will have to take into account the specific nature of the industry in question, the professional and customer profile, the historical background of the country or region, local habits and practices, ethics and even religious beliefs.
IJQI therefore serves as an international and multi-industry platform to bring together academics, researchers and practitioners from different backgrounds to share new theories, research findings and case studies, enhancing understanding and collaboration.
Objectives
IJQI aims to promote understanding and dialogue across cultures and industries on the issues of quality and innovation by serving as a platform where new theories, research findings and case studies can be published and shared internationally. Readership
