Abstract/Summary: Technological, economic, social and environmental perspectives, necessary to depict the current industrial scenarios and to pinpoint sustainability, imply, for the modern organisations, to consider new competences, responsibilities, roles and structures capable to be in line with the best product lifecycle management (PLM) strategies and practices. The life of an organisation is in fact characterized by phases that can be referred to a lifecycle. These phases can be named as concept/design, implementation, operation, change and recycling of knowledge. The paper investigates organisational issues in PLM, by means of a product-process matrix reference model in which the organisational lifecycle dimension is considered. A new model, the lifecycle cube, is then presented. In particular, the evolution of network of organisations, the importance of business process integration, and the organisational relationships are emphasized while considering innovation processes.
