The Latin America region has experienced rapid industrial, political and economic change over the past few decades. The challenges for managers and researchers from the Latin America area are often different to those experienced in other parts of the world. Considering that the major challenge for Latin America is to contribute to a more sustainable world, LAJMSD offers an international forum for a better understanding of the state-of-the-art and best practices of management focusing on sustainable development in Latin American organisations.

Objectives

Latin America is home to more than half a billion people, who occupy approximately 14% of the world’s land surface area, and possesses a growing middle class and combined gross domestic product of approximately $4 trillion. The importance of Latin America extends well outside the region; for example, approximately 15% of the U.S. population can be considered Latin American in origin. Thus, Latin America is quickly becoming one of the world’s most important economic regions.

The developing economies of this vast and increasingly important area will have a significant impact on the development of the world’s future. Latin America’s position, therefore, is highly significant in any discussion of strategies and practices toward sustainable development worldwide. Sustainable development denotes a type of development that meets the economic, social and environmental needs of contemporary society without sacrificing future generations’ resource needs. However, little research focusing on the management of the complex issues regarding Latin American organisations or the region’s contribution to sustainable development is available. Thus, the main objective of LAJMSD is to share research results that can help leaders from various sectors of society to build more sustainable organisations in this special region of the globe. This objective can be achieved both by Latin American researchers and by researchers from other regions interested in creating a sustainable future for Latin America.
