IJCPS provides a forum for addressing issues relevant to the development of innovative strategies to enhance our productivity when interacting with a user interface. The UI should become actor-focused, utilising cognitive strategies commonly deployed for task performance. The ability to recognise the cognitive and emotional states of actors should be integrated into the design of the UI at a fundamental level - providing the means to automatically acquire and adapt the UI to the cognitive and emotional state of the actor.

 Topics covered include

  • Conceptual support systems
  • Epistemic systems, ontologies and hermeneutics
  • User modelling and user-centric system design
  • Cognitive ergonomics
  • Cognitive prostheses
  • Assistive technologies
  • Computer-based learning
  • Task performance support systems
  • Communication systems design
  • Biofeedback based interactions
  • Subliminal information pipelines
  • Brain-computer based technologies
  • Human factors as related to UI design; adaptive UI
  • Ecological/evolutionary factors in distributed/shared cognition/awareness
  • Agent-based interactions

Objectives

The objective of IJCPS is scientific cross-fertilisation between disciplines such as cognitive science, healthcare, education, ergonomics, system design and task performance analysis. The theories on human-machine interaction, task performance and mental functioning need systematic research in order to improve productivity. Phenomena such as RSI, losing navigational control and conflicting task performance are often symptoms of a deeper discrepancy between the human actor and the demands from the environment. These burdens are enhanced when the actor is influenced by special physical and/or cognitive challenges. To meet this wide range of demands placed on the successful deployment of computer based technology, special consideration must be placed on usability issues. It is the goal of IJCPS to provide such a forum for researchers to present their findings on the full spectrum of machine based usability issues.

Readership

IJCPS provides a forum and arena for professionals, academics, researchers and software system designers working in the fields of human-machine interaction, healthcare, education, engineering, information management, learning and human resource management.

Contents

IJCPS publishes original papers, review papers, technical reports and case studies. Special Issues devoted to important topics in the psychological and medical aspects of human-systems design will occasionally be published.
