Organisations possess technology to collect, store and process vast volumes of data. However, they are often stymied in their efforts to translate this data into meaningful information that can be used to improve business processes and decision making. The cliché, "drowning in data and starving of information", seems apposite. The reasons are often related to issues which collectively form an emerging field, 'information quality'. IJIQ covers theories, practices, strategies, infrastructure, dimensions, modelling and tools for information quality in modern organisations.
Topics covered include
- Information quality strategies, policies, standards, concepts and measurement frameworks
- Information quality theory, models, methodologies and assessment techniques
- Data governance, metadata quality and information lifecycle management
- Information mapping, interoperability and cross-domain information sharing
- Cost and benefit analysis of information quality improvements and data value optimisation
- Data cleansing, reconciliation, fusion and knowledge integration
- Data quality and trustworthiness for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning systems
- Model validation, bias detection, transparency and explainability in intelligent systems
- Security, privacy, robustness and resilience in data-driven and AI-enabled environments
- Human-AI information interaction and evaluation of generated content
- Information quality in e-government, digital governance and public information systems
- Information quality in healthcare, finance, education, agriculture and other industrial sectors
- Information quality for sustainable development and responsible AI practices
- Empirical studies, benchmarking and best practices in information quality research and applications
- Trust, credibility, social implications and education in information quality
Objectives
IJIQ provides an international outlet for the publication of high-quality papers in the broad field of information quality. It continues to promote research on the theory, design, analysis, management and implementation of information quality systems across all sectors, including service industries, manufacturing, government, healthcare, education, finance, agriculture and other data-driven domains.
In recognition of the rapid advancement of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), IJIQ also encourages research on information quality in intelligent and autonomous systems, covering topics such as data reliability for AI and machine learning, model robustness and transparency, security and resilience of information pipelines, and trustworthiness of AI-generated information.
The journal further welcomes work addressing the economic, societal and ethical dimensions of information quality, including applications in digital governance, sustainability and responsible AI. IJIQ provides a forum for academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers to discuss emerging concepts and disseminate knowledge across the full range of issues within the information quality domain. It serves as an effective channel for exchanging innovative ideas and sharing practical experiences in managing and assuring information quality in modern organisations and intelligent ecosystems.
Readership
Interest in information quality, particularly in the context of AI, data governance and trustworthy computing, continues to grow across academia and industry. IJIQ provides insights and support for professionals, academics and researchers working in information management, data science, artificial intelligence and information systems; for practitioners, engineers and decision makers in both private and public sectors who are concerned with the reliability, fairness and accountability of data and information systems; and for policy and standards bodies involved in defining frameworks for data quality, model governance and AI ethics.
Contents
IJIQ considers original research works. It publishes theoretical papers, review papers, case studies, empirical research, technical notes and book reviews. Special Issues devoted to important topics in information quality will occasionally be published.
