IJCE promotes and fosters scholarly discussion on the emerging subject of collaborative decision making in the engineering discipline. Collaborative engineering studies the interactive process of engineering collaboration, whereby multiple interested stakeholders resolve conflicts, bargain for individual or collective advantages, agree upon courses of action, and/or attempt to craft joint outcomes which serve their mutual interests.
The IJCE emphasis is on the implications that collaborative consensus-building activities have on both the efficiency of technical teams and the quality of their results. This perspective acknowledges the complexity of collaborative engineering as an interface between decision and negotiation processes as well as in the assimilation of social and technical aspects of engineering activities operating in parallel over different time-space and discipline scales.
Objectives
The objectives of IJCE are to establish an effective channel of communication between academic and research institutions, industry communities, government agencies and persons concerned with the complex nature of collaborative engineering in the design and manufacture of technical systems. It also aims to promote and coordinate interdisciplinary research and development in the promising paradigm of Engineering as Collaborative Negotiation (ECN) as a new scientific foundation for collaborative engineering.
The international dimension is emphasised in order to overcome cultural and national barriers, and to meet the needs of global collaboration, which has become ubiquitous due to modern communication and information technologies. IJCE promotes fundamental pedagogical and technological changes in the current way of thinking, and accelerates paradigm shifts in engineering research, education and application. Readership
IJCE provides a vehicle to help engineering academics, researchers, educators, practitioners and decision makers working in the fields of design, manufacturing, product development, system engineering, technology management and training to disseminate information and to learn from each other’s work. Social science professionals who are interested in socio-technical interaction, management scholars, behavioural researchers and decision scientists in the fields of team organisation and decision making will also find IJCE relevant. Contents
IJCE publishes original papers, review articles, technical reports, case studies, conference reports, management reports, book reviews, notes, commentaries and news. Special Issues devoted to important research and development topics related to collaborative engineering will occasionally be published. Subject Coverage
Topics of interest to IJCE include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborative decision making and decision analysis in engineering
- Distributive and integrative negotiation techniques for engineering
- Engineering as collaborative negotiation
- Collaboration science and technology
