Special Issue on: "Extending the Envelope of the Ride-Handling Trade-off"

Guest Editors: Dr P. Schalk Els, Prof. Nico J. Theron and Prof Jasper L. Steyn, University of Pretoria, South Africa

The objective of this Special Issue on simultaneous improvement of road vehicle ride and handling is to create a reference issue for researchers and design engineers involved in extending the design envelope of the ride-handling trade-off imposed by the conflicting demands of ride comfort and handling stability on vehicle dynamics. This is done against a background of early examples of advanced suspension systems entering at the top end of the commercial market, and an expectation of much wider industrial demand for expertise in the field.

Subject Coverage
General areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Research on suspension, control and tyre modelling, experimentation and technologies to enhance ride and handling of road vehicles simultaneously
  • Modelling technique development of road vehicle dynamics to support development of simultaneous improvement of ride and handling
  • Development of experimental methods to facilitate simultaneous measurement of ride and handling
  • Study and improvement of the correlation between numerical simulation and laboratory/road/track testing of vehicle ride and handling
