Guest Editors:
Professor Carlos Pestana Barros and Professor Abel Correia, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal
Professor Michel Desbordes, ISC Business School and University of Strasbourg, France

This special issue aims to attract high quality research on a specific management issue: the management of the health fitness centre. This is a contemporary profit-oriented organisation that appears in all city and towns. Despite its relative importance in employment of sport students, and its contribution to the health and wellbeing of the citizens, scarce research has been conducted in this issue.

The present special issue aims to fill this void. Researchers are invited to focus on important issues related to the management of health fitness centres. Research relevant to fitness management for this issue should examine:

  • firstly, marketing issues, namely the application of CRM - consumer research methods to retain clients, the segmentation of clients, the positioning of the health fitness centre;
  • secondly, the search for profitability and efficiency in the management practices of health fitness centres;
  • thirdly, governance issues related to health fitness centres;
  • fourthly, the management of gender and minority issues on this topic;
  • fifthly, customer satisfaction, service quality and retention policy in health fitness centres.

Theoretical and applied models in this topic are welcome.
