Special Issue on: "Advances in Biomaterials for Medical and Pharmaceutical Applications"

Guest Editor: Dr. Libo Wu, MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., USA

The development of biomaterials has been ongoing for several decades now and is a multidisciplinary field which involves medicine, pharmaceutics, biology, tissue engineering, material science and chemistry. Biomaterials have been used in a wide variety of medical and pharmaceutical applications such as dental implant, contact lenses, heart valves, bone implant and drug delivery.

The deficiency of traditional biomaterials as well as the rapid advances of other related fields has inspired the progress in novel biomaterials design. For instance, intelligent biomaterials which can control the surrounding biological environment or are responsive to the conditions around them have drawn increasing attention recently from researchers. Significant advances have also been made these days with regard to the design of novel polymeric biomaterials for controlled drug delivery and targeting.

This special issue aims to attract high quality research articles related to recent advances in the application of biomaterials for medical and pharmaceutical applications and to bring together the latest work in this rapidly growing multidisciplinary field.
