International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering
Special Issue on: "Advances in Biotribology"
Editor: Professor J. Paulo Davim, University of Aveiro, Portugal
It is usual to define biotribology as “the tribological phenomena occurring in either the human body or in animals”. Therefore it is possible consider tribological processes that may occur after implantation of an artificial device in the human body and the tribological processes naturally occurring in or on the tissues and organs of animals. Animals, including humans, possess a wide variety of sliding and frictional interfaces. Nowadays, much research is currently being undertaken to develop new biotribology concepts, for further enhancing tribological performance and for finding novel applications. This special issue invites the submission of high quality research articles related to advances in biotribology.
Subject CoverageSuitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Tribology of natural synovial joints and artificial replacements
- Wear of screws and plates in bone fracture repair
- Wear of denture and restorative materials
- Friction of skin and comfort of clothes
- Wear replacement heart valves
- Tribology of contacts lenses and ocular tribology
- Biotribology on the microscale and nanoscale levels
