Special Issue on: "Abrasive Machining in Biomedical Manufacturing"

Guest Editor: Professor Krishnan Venkatakrishnan, Ryerson University, Canada

In the past two decades, healthcare expenditure has grown rapidly. Solving the challenge of the increasing costs of healthcare requires a multidisciplinary approach. Manufacturing is a critical part of the solution. Abrasive machining has been applied not only to the manufacturing of biomedical devices but also to the direct patient treatment and care. However, research efforts performed in this area are sparse. Therefore, the goal of this special issue is to publish research result in abrasive machining in healthcare and to provide a forum for biomedical manufacturing using abrasive technologies.

Subject Coverage
The subject coverage of this special issue includes, but is not limited to, topics that address:
  • Abrasive tissue removal, such as rotational atherectomy, skin treatment, and cutting of enamel.
  • Machining of medical parts, such as surface conditioning of medical instrument blades, machining of medical ceramic parts, polishing of surface of artificial joints
  • Dental hard tissue machining
  • The emerging applications of abrasive machining in biomedical applications and new abrasive techniques used for patient treatment.
