Abstract: Problems of analysis and control of torsional vibrations of FR-type automotive power drivetrains are studied in this paper. First, a multi-degree-of-freedom analytical model of torsional vibration of a truck is developed, and its natural vibration characteristics are computationally analysed. Secondly, several possible and practical ways of structural modifications, i.e. modifications to stiffnesses, masses and dampings, for control of vibration and noise are numerically simulated. Thirdly, two special problems about torsional vibration analysis and analytical model reduction are investigated: (i) local vibration modes and their dominant substructures, and (ii) modal symmetry and analytical model simplification of symmetrically branched driving axle substructure.
