  • Study on the resilience of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road container liner network based on AIS data   Order a copy of this article

    Abstract: Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road container liner network has emerged as a core international trade channel. However, its resilience faces severe challenges due to global political and economic turbulence, frequent natural disasters, and oligopolistic competition among shipping giants. This study employs AIS vessel trajectory data to construct a directed weighted complex network model. By integrating centrality metrics such as weighted degree, betweenness, and closeness, it proposes a comprehensive node importance assessment method through principal component analysis. Finally, it establishes random attack and intentional attack models to simulate network disruption and recovery processes. The results indicate that this network exhibits both small-world characteristics and significant vulnerability. Specifically, the Northern Europe Mediterranean region exhibits optimal robustness due to the balanced layout of shipping routes, whereas the East Asia-Southeast Asia region displays prominent vulnerability due to reliance on a few hub ports.
