Land vehicle navigation systems provide drivers with route guidance information via vehicle borne or portable devices. They have become indispensable in many of the new automobile models, and their design concepts have evolved to include functionalities that make them more than just a vehicle location and map displaying system.

At present, intensive R&D activities are being conducted to develop and deploy next-generation vehicle navigation systems which will integrate application modules for enhancing driver-assist capabilities such as real-time traffic information, driver comfort and safety, with a projected increase in worldwide demand and reduction in costs.

The goal of this special issue is to collect recent studies in development, test and evaluation of latest vehicle information and communication enabling technologies, and mathematical models and computational algorithms for next generation vehicle navigation systems. The organisers welcome submission of papers in all areas pertaining to the theoretical and practical aspects of vehicle navigation.
