The modern technological revolution has resulted in dramatic changes in the way in which we live throughout the world. Business and technology have become global and therefore the demand for new and better materials has intensified significantly over the past decade or so. In recent years, safety in buildings and in transit (airplanes, trains and cars) has become a key concern for the majority of developed countries. In order to produce materials with improved flame retardancy, safer burning, cleaner environment and improved safety requirements, nanotechnology, nanocomposite materials, nanobiomaterials and nanoparticle incorporation are being extensively investigated.

It is therefore timely to collate key information into a special issue which will serve as a reference guide for scientists, engineers and policy makers in the fields of combustion, safety, fire retardancy, smoke reduction and cleaner byproducts and emissions.

This special issue aims to focus on the recent developments in nano and biomaterials in the growing field of combustion, flame retardancy, clean environment and safety applications.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere
