OBJECTIVES

The series combines the high standards of an academic approach with the practical value of industrial applications. Its objective is to publish original research outputs for improving practices in the management of shipping and transport logistics. The series also aims to strengthen the theoretical base to facilitate managers to make management decisions in the field of shipping and transport logistics. Towards these goals, a holistic approach will be used to critically examine the issues relating to shipping and transport logistics from a global perspective.

SCOPE AND FOCUS

Shipping is a term that has different meanings. In general, it means ships and cargoes. Shipping also refers to any mode of transport that moves goods from one place to another place. The trend in shipping business is moving towards a strategic focus. As the industry has become more complex and dynamic, there is a need to acquire knowledge on a broad spectrum of issues and concepts that affect shipping activities.

Successful managers in the industry need to develop new approaches and methods to cope with existing and emerging challenges and opportunities. This series serves to consolidate the knowledge in the field of shipping and transport logistics. Against the background of a global business environment, this series aims to examine the core elements in shipping and transport logistics, as well as to discuss the strategic and operational issues in the industry.

APPROACH

To cope with a complex and dynamic business environment, this series encourages a multi-disciplinary approach to address the social, political, economical and technological issues facing the shipping and transport logistics industry, as well as advocating taking a strategic perspective in problem solving. It attempts to provide both practical- and research-oriented materials to readers.

CONTENTS

All the books in the series are noted for their high academic quality and significant practical value. All chapters are structured logically and integrated around a coherent central theme. There is also a balance between theoretical and empirical chapters in each book.
