Abstract: In this paper, optimisation design of a planar hybrid five-bar mechanism for manufacturing error of bar-length is presented. By establishing the mathematical model of the influence of the manufacturing error of bar-length on the position output precision of the hybrid mechanism, the sensitivity coefficient of the bar-length error is determined, and the effect of the manufacturing error of the bar-length on the output precision of the system is analysed. The optimisation design for hybrid mechanism is proposed on the basis of the sensitivity coefficient of the hybrid mechanism and PSO algorithm. A real example of design shows that reasonable designed manufacturing tolerance of bar-lengths of the hybrid five-bar mechanism could make the mechanism not only satisfy the requirement of accuracy but also achieve lower manufacturing cost.
