Abstract: To reveal vibration characteristics of compressor casing of aero-engine, a study of a typical compressor splitting casing was effectuated by both finite element and experimental modal methods. The calculated and experimental models were established. The structural modal parameters were identified and compared with each other. The results show that the experimental vibration frequencies are in good accordance with the calculated ones. In both methods, the compressor casing has both lateral vibration with several waves in the tangential direction and the horizontal movement with some half waves in the longitudinal direction. In addition, the maximum displacement takes place at the front and rear flanges of the compressor casing. The differences among them are about 20% for the first three orders, and about 7% for the next three orders. In the lower orders' vibration of the compressor casing, two horizontal flanges fixation reduce the casing stiffness and attenuate its frequencies accordingly.
