Special Issue on: "Food Security and Safety from a Watershed Management Perspective"

Guest Editor:
Guangwei Huang, Sophia University, Japan

The world is facing a potential crisis in terms of food security. The challenge is to provide the world’s growing population with a sustainable, secure supply of safe, nutritious and affordable high-quality food using less land, less water and less chemical fertilisers in the context of global climate change.

The objective of this special issue is to address the issue of how to ensure food security without compromising food safety and water and land qualities. A particular focus is on how watershed management practices from policy to technology may affect food security and safety. We invite theoretical and empirical research articles on the main themes listed below, although other relevant topics will also be considered.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Global and local food security
  • Current and new challenges to food safety
  • Land use and fertiliser management
  • Advances in food or agricultural technology
  • Watershed resource management

  • Watershed management policy in relation to agriculture
  • Economic and human costs of food safety
  • Impacts of climate change on food security and safety
