With the rapid development of network socialisation and multimedia cloud computing, multimedia social networks (MSNs) have grown rapidly. These MSNs offer network tools, services and applications for multimedia contents (e.g., electronic books, digital images, audio and video) that can be shared among users in the same group or between different groups within social networks. Many MSNs are popular nowadays, such as video sharing networks (e.g. YouTube) and audio sharing networks (e.g. SongTaste), etc.

However, the question of security is becoming urgent. For instance, easy digital content reproduction and the convenient distribution and sharing of such contents facilitated by open MSN environments have enabled people to share and distribute valuable copyrighted digital contents within social networks. Copyright infringement behaviours, such as illicit copying, malicious distribution, unauthorised access and usage, free sharing of copyright-protected digital contents, will also become a much more common phenomenon.

Some research frontiers on social network modelling theory, methodology and applications have been put in place, including enhanced security mechanisms, approaches and algorithms, user behaviours and big data analysis in social network applications, as well as social factors and soft computing in social media distributions.

The motivation of the special issue is to bring together researchers, engineers and administrators with regard to state-of-the-art technologies and ideas to significantly improve multimedia social network security and management based on big data analysis.

Subject Coverage
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Multimedia cloud computing-enabling social networks security and forensics
  • Social networks dynamic modelling, algorithm and real-world practices
  • User behaviour analysis based on big date related to multimedia social networks
  • Cryptography, authentication, authorisation and usage control for multimedia social networks
  • Trust assessment and its soft computing in multimedia social networks
  • Risk analysis, mitigation and management in real-world social networks
  • Interdisciplinary empirical studies on multimedia social networks
  • Use case studies on social network security and management
