Abstract/Summary: The collaborative and integrated design and manufacturing (CIDM) service is a new business model for the injection mold industry. This research focuses on the as-is and to-be process analysis of the industry. The current mold industrial practice will be discussed using the as-is models including three major views of organization, behaviour and object models. Then, the new practice of the collaborative and integrated mold design and manufacturing is described in the to-be model, which also consists of three key views and their relationship. The comparison of the traditional mold design and production and the new CIDM model is conducted to demonstrate the benefits of the to-be model. Finally, the goals of this research are to identify and define the requirements, functional details and system architecture of CIDM, as well as implement the prototype of a CIDM service platform demonstrating the realization of the innovative business model.
