Artificial Intelligence is the sector in computer science that emphasises the creation of intelligent machines that work, operate and react like human beings. The past few decades have witnessed many advances in AI such as language understanding, vision recognition, and intelligent digital assistants due to progress in machine learning, computer processing power, the accessibility of mobile internet, the availability of large amounts of data, and data-storage technology.
Contemporary AI systems focus on specific predefined tasks but fail to learn by themselves from data and experience, intuitive reasoning and adaptation. From the perspective of overcoming the limitation of existing AI, we need to take interdisciplinary scientific efforts to boost the future interdisciplinary applications of AI. Therefore, the next breakthroughs in AI should be an interdisciplinary endeavour that draws upon neuroscience, physics, mathematics, electronic engineering, biology, linguistics, and psychologies together, to deliver great theoretically, technological and applicable innovations, address complex societal issues, and benefit more people and industries.
The special issue seeks leading research for the discussion of recent progress on fundamental theory, innovative systems, and influent applications.
