IoT and cyber physical systems are becoming pervasive and are enhancing our daily life quality, from smart cars, smart homes, to smart cities, smart health, etc. These systems include distributed, embedded and parallel computing.

In order to develop coherent, responsive, safe, flexible and energy-efficient CPS systems, several challenges still need to be addressed. To enable this transformation and to better understand the untapped opportunities, the CPS interdisciplinary landscape requires numerous technological advances in hardware and software.

This special issue focuses on new software and hardware proposals for CPS smart systems, identifying new perspectives and addressing innovative research contribution. It includes new IoT technologies, edge/fog software architecture, real-time systems, reconfigurable hardware and embedded networking.

The Guest Editors will be inviting substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the Second international conference on Embedded & Distributed Systems (EDiS2020) for review and potential publication, but are also inviting other experts to submit articles for this call.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • IoT and embedded real-time systems
  • New trends in information and computing technology
  • Parallel, distributed computing and communication networks
  • Network on chip
  • Multi-objective optimisation with Metaheuristics for CPS
  • Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in embedded systems
