Started in China of what believed as just another 'flu', the Coronavirus (COVID19) spreads around the globe and it has become clear that it has the potential to derail the world economy. What started as the public health threat has now becoming an explosive economic crisis where no one is left behind on its intensity. Disruptions caused by the COVID19 are starting to ripple through emerging markets. As suggested by Hevia and Neumeyer (2020), with the collapsing exports, dwindling remittances and tightening international credit conditions, a call for coordination between health and economic policy responses designed for emerging economies is vital option. Government rapid move to prevent further spread was worldwide curfews and travel restrictions resulted in the largest lockdowns in the history. It shows the fragility and unpreparedness of the economy to face such a pandemic. With the relaxing of restriction in most of the sectors across the emerging economies, the question lies on the how these countries would be able to restart the button after months of 'pause' without further jeopardising the economy. Loayza and Pennings (2020) believed that the vulnerability to the pandemic is higher in developing countries where it brings sharp external demand shock. Further, Baldwin and Weder di Mauro (2020) stated that governments should deploy policies that 'flatten the recession curve' while avoiding long-lasting damage to the economies.

In the midst of extraordinary scenario with challenges and uncertainty, this special issue focusses on the impact, challenges, opportunity and recovery path for the emerging countries. Potential authors are to contribute empirical papers in addressing the COVID19 pandemic emphasizing on the wider impact on the economy in this 'new normal' condition. We are open to endless avenues of research within the scope of economics sphere.
