Abstract: Results from an engine test bench and simulation by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are compared to study the influence of a parameter variation of start of fuel injection and spray angle. A methodology shows how the unknown spray model parameters are determined when no data from spray chamber experiments is available. Based on the pressure trace as response, a systematical search for a point in the parameter space spanned by the unknown spray model parameters leads to an optimum where the pressure trace, apparent heat release rate and pollutants are in a good agreement between experimental data and results from simulation.
