Abstract: Assessment of Learning Outcomes (LOs) is an important academic process that can be used to understand and improve student learning. Several researchers have proposed that as the first step in a continual learning cycle of measurement, feedback, reflection and change, assessment can play a vital role in guiding students' learning efforts. Empirical evidence that validate this proposition is, however, both inadequate and inconclusive. This study discusses the results of three field experiments that were conducted to investigate the usefulness of an assessment tool, rubric, in enhancing students' usage of learning strategies and attainment of LOs.
