Abstract: In order to get the significant factors which affect shearer drum's cutting performance, orthogonal test was conducted in the coal cutting bed with model drums and model picks. After that, the work of significance analysis was carried out based on the test results. The analysis indicates that: in orthogonal test of drums, coal compressive strength and cutting depth have obvious effects on cutting torque. In sealed cutting style under conditions of small cutting depth, the pick body directly works on the coal, which leads to significant effect of pick-body cone angle on the three cutting performances, while the effects of alloy head diameter, impact angle, cutting line spacing, angle between picks and cutting depth are not obvious. However, in open cutting style, pick-body cone angle does not have significant effects. The test also indicates that in all cases, helical angles have significant effects on drum cutting performance and loading performance. [Received: April 17, 2013; Accepted: November 10, 2013]
