Abstract: Well-known firms use interwheel differentials with various characteristics for driving axles of 4WD single-basket loaders instead of free differentials. For example, limited slip differentials which have constant lock coefficients are used on the axles of Kamatsu loaders with 2-6 t carrying capacity. Other models of loaders use limited slip differentials for front driving axles and No Spins for rear driving axles. Why? The answer is for improving tractive performances of the loaders. And are those characteristics of differentials optimal? Perhaps another differential should be used. How are the optimal characteristics to be found and differentials to be designed? The answers to these questions are the subject of this paper and have been obtained using the method for the synthesis of actuating systems (Vantsevich, 1994).
