Abstract: The importance of fuel cells for future low emission transportation systems is well known, but in order to obtain a complete picture of the benefits there is a need to consider the environmental impact of such systems over their lifetime from manufacture to disposal. This paper presents the preliminary results of environmental life cycle analyses of fuel cell vehicle drives and other low pollution options, thus enabling a comparative assessment to be made.
