Abstract: In order to meet future legislative requirements facing the automotive industry, a parallel hybrid vehicle is being developed jointly by the Rover Group and the Warwick Manufacturing Group. The vehicle utilizes a petrol engine mechanically linked to a 45 kW electric motor, and is capable of electric-only operation. The vehicle powertrain and its control system is outlined. Finally, further research into intelligent powertrain control is described.
