Abstract: Noise from the exhaust system is one of the principal factors that contribute to vehicle noise. In the case of an exhaust system with a complex flow path, an additional gas-flow noise is open produced even when the silencer has a good acoustic performance. Since it is impossible to improve the gas-flow noise through acoustic technology alone, the authors produce a new visualisation method of the gas flow in the silencer by using a fired charcoal powder, and study some practical improvements of the silence structure.
