Abstract: This paper provides the evaluation process of channel availability for traffic prediction. Spectrum usage deals with the availability of the free channel which is not used by the primary user. Evaluation of channel availability provides the details of call arrival process, call holding time and call blockage of the primary user. From the estimated results, the secondary users are able to evaluate the channel availability for a given period of time. By the evaluation of channel availability, the service providers are increased to share the spectrum; this may reduce the high-traffic patterns of the call, call blockage and interference.

Keywords: call arrivals; call holding; call blockage; channel availability; cognitive radio; spectrum sharing; traffic patterns; traffic prediction; interference.
