Abstract: This study empirically investigates the effects of safety management on safety performance, specifically in the container stevedoring operations context. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that safety concern, safety motivation, and supervisors| safety management are positively related to safety performance. The results also indicate that the relationships between safety concern, safety motivation and safety performance are significantly mediated by supervisors| safety management. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings for safety performance improvement in the container stevedoring operations context are discussed.

Keywords: safety management; container stevedoring; safety performance; hierarchical regression analysis; perceived safety; safety concerns; safety motivation; container terminals.
