Abstract: The UK Department of Trade and Industry has recently reviewed its policy towards scientific and technological innovation. Here the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Industry describes his Department|s innovation strategy, which has three main objectives: (1) to encourage the production and supply of technically educated, skilled and trained manpower, (2) to establish a climate and culture which encourages innovation, and (3) to make managements more aware of the role of technological innovation in the creation of national wealth.
