Abstract: This paper analyses the influence of a truck|s powertrain system components on fuel consumption and ascending capacity. Based on truck performance data, an algorithm for optimal fuel economy was developed and tested. This algorithm has proved to be applicable for selection of the most appropriate powertrain system for a given vehicle, taking into account the operating conditions. The results of the application of the method on a tractor and two trailers are presented.
