Abstract: The surface finish of a machined workpiece is affected by the tool geometry. A defined tool geometry allows the forecasting of parameters of the machined surface after the process of turning. In this paper, the influence of tool modification on the machined surface in dry turning was investigated. Parameters of the machined surface when cutting with rounded cutting points and the modified ones were compared. Additionally, four indexes of the surface image were proposed to describe surface quality. The analysis of tool modification was performed with the use of image indexes for four different work materials.
