Abstract: A theoretical and experimental investigation dealing with the oscillations of liquid cargoes transported by tank trailers is reported. By means of a CCD camera, it was possible to gather information on the oscillation of the liquid directly inside the tank. Vehicle dynamics was captured by an instrumented trailer. In this work experimental results of a trial manoeuvre consisting of a 90° curve performed by an articulated car-trailer system are described. These results are compared to those predicted by a mathematical model of articulated vehicles, including a simplified dynamic model of liquid motion. Good agreement between experimental and theoretical predictions is exhibited.
