Abstract: With the development of big data technology, the prospect of its application in the field of education is in the spotlight. This paper analyses the theory of English teaching and big data techniques to construct a model of optimisation of teaching content and strategies based on big data. The experimental design includes the clarity of the purpose of the experiment, the reasonable configuration of the experimental object and the experimental group, the innovative design of the experimental content and method, and the scientific method of data collection. Comparative analysis of big data vs. traditional teaching analysis in English teaching reveals that big data outperforms traditional methods in optimising teaching content and enhancing teaching efficiency. This study investigates data-driven instructional optimisation through LMS-based learning analytics and statistical analysis. Behavioural log data, including login frequency, learning duration, and task participation, were normalised and integrated into the learning behaviour index; LBI.
