Abstract: The performance of non-metallic sliding element textured bearing is investigated. The study includes the elastic deformation of the bearing wall with surface texture. There are distinctive bearing materials utilised in the modern purposes especially the non-metallic materials. In this study the comparison between two of the most common non-metallic bearing materials showed that the Nylon 6 is superior to the high density polyethylene (HDPE). An analysis is performed to study the influence of textured surfaces in improving hydrodynamic performance of the elastic bearing. The results show that the elastic textured bearing is superior to the plain elastic bearing at all eccentricity ratios. The load carrying capacity increases with protrusion height whereas the friction loss decreases. It was shown that the protrusion height, number of protrusions and protrusion shape factor are to be properly selected in order to get a better performance.
