Abstract: The integration of knowledge management strategies into the manufacturing process has become a key factor for manufacturers that are continuously challenged to increase production performance. A lot of research has been developed in the literature in order to propose innovative methods and tools with the aim of enhancing the formalisation, capitalisation and the reuse of knowledge during the different steps of the manufacturing process. Our research work aims to develop the concept of 'digital factory assistant' (DFA), as a tutoring and decision support system aiming to provide appropriate assistance to the factory workers depending on their working situations. This paper investigates how the DFA concept, used side by side within a PLM approach, can enhance knowledge reuse and sharing in the factory. The PLM approach results from the integration of several information technology (IT) systems. Therefore, an interoperability solution is proposed as a part of the DFA technical architecture in order to overcome the problematic of data extraction and exchange between heterogeneous IT systems in the PLM.
