Abstract: Electric discharge coating has become one of the emerging deposition processes which deposits both thick and thin films using same electric discharge machining (EDM) equipment, just by varying the operating parameters. In this experimental exertion, W and Cu powders of 325 mesh size have been selected as electrode material and aluminium as workpiece material. The main objective is to deposit a uniform layer of tungsten and its carbide over aluminium substrate using P/M green compact tools by electric discharge coating (EDC) process. Different characterisation techniques like SEM, EDX and XRD analysis have been used to observe the topography, presence of materials and the phase transformations while deposition process. Material transfer rate of 171.72 mg/min and the roughness of 6.2 µm have been achieved successfully.
