Abstract: In the design of vehicles, the application of experimental and computational tools, including geometry handling, are increasingly important. In this situation organisations need facilities that: (a) serve as a neutral transfer point between the various tools and between the various disciplines involved in the design process and (b) provide a standard set of functions for analysis and presentation of information, to support the interpretation of the results gained. Utilising database management and interactive graphics techniques. EDIPAS (Engineering Data Interactive Presentation and Analysis System) has been designed and made operational at the National Aerospace Laboratory NLR (The Netherlands). Data management facilities are provided in EDIPAS to cope with the data transfer problem. Various basic facilities are available to tailor analysis and presentation functions to the need of various disciplines. Examples of application of EDIPAS are given for experiments in wind tunnels, being part of the design trajectory of aircraft. The marketing of EDIPAS is granted to Control Data B.V., The Netherlands. At NLR, EDIPAS has proved to be an indispensable element in the infrastructure, with which it remains competitive for various activities under contract.
