Integrating design and manufacturing strategies for business transformation

Abstract: This paper focuses on the linkages between the various aspects of product design and the business and strategic needs of a company. It examines manufacturing strategy, simultaneous engineering, design technologies, simplification and value engineering, manufacturing flexibility, design and the profit cycle and team working. It argues for integrated design and manufacture in the context of 'Hu-Tech', humans first, technology second.
