International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology (IJCAT), Vol. 17, No. 4, 2003

Abstract: Response of a rotating cantilevered shaft with an end point load is analysed by hybrid modelling techniques using a distributed-lumped parameter approach. The flexural vibration of the distributed shaft is investigated first in the frequency domain and the frequency response of the system is computed. In the problem considered, the damped natural frequency of the system is calculated and compared with the results obtained from an approximation using influence coefficients. Future applications of hybrid modelling methods are discussed and computational accuracy improvements are predicted.
