ASD2021: Special Issue on: "Driving Growth in Post COVID-19 Economies Through Business Digitalisation and Innovation"

Guest Editors:
Dr. Wiktor Patena and Dr. Omar Al Serhan, Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates

The historic adoption of sustainable development goals (SDGs) by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 created an opportunity for individual and collective efforts among member states towards the fulfilment of the 17 SDGs by 2030. The adoption of these SDGs has raised debates over the characterisation and measurements of sustainability across various disciplines and contexts. In addition, the UN targets and measuring indications has raised further issues in determining the ability to measure the attainment of the SDGs. Multiple methods have been designed to measure SDG performance, such as OECD distance measure and the Sustainable Development Goals Index (SDGI). While there are growing conflicts in determining the approaches to measuring sustainability across these various contexts, there is agreement among researchers that more studies are needed to investigate measuring criterion, assess the various existing methods and apply these methods and indices towards understanding and measure the attainment of the 2030 SDGs. In addition to measuring sustainability, a couple of studies have investigated the impact of the SDG on other aspects of societal development such as its impact on entrepreneurship and innovation.

This special issue aims to contribute to the research and knowledge on the development of measuring criterions as well as the implementation of these measuring criterions for sustainability development. The focus of these researches would be the 17 UN SDG and will assess the achievements and progress that has been made between 2015 and 2021 on the each of the 17 SDG. The research and the assessments of the progress will be from an interdisciplinary approach. This will ensure that the sustainability development and the SDGs are assessed from various perspectives. All submissions should be of empirical, conceptual and critical work within the following topics, which address the achievement of sustainability goals or are within the context of sustainability development at the macro level.

The Guest Editors will be inviting substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at Achieving Sustainable Development through Business, Innovation and Digital Technologies (ASD2021) for review and potential publication, but are also inviting other experts to submit articles for this call.
