Special Issue on: "Bridging the Digital Divide in Healthcare"

Guest Editor:
Dr. Manal M. Yunis, Lebanese American University, Lebanon

This special issue on the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in bridging the gap between health providers and patients is devoted to presenting new conceptual or empirical research that addresses the contribution of ICT to quality healthcare. The issue therefore aims to publish original, high-quality, unpublished research papers, and presents a platform for scholars to share their research results and observations in the field.

Collaborative, quality and value-based treatment tailored for the individual patient is a universal trend in healthcare. This trend is also driving the main goal of deploying information technology in healthcare – namely, provision of effective care and accurate diagnostics anywhere, anytime, through access to the right information anywhere, anytime. eHealth, mHealth, health cloud computing, wearable technologies and other emerging digital technologies show the increasingly expanding role of IT in enabling interconnected, holistic and proactive care personalised to patients, their data and their healthcare community. The goal is to ensure that health information and best practices are flowing between providers and patients so as to support a health system that provides smarter spending, better care and healthier people.
