Special Issue on: "Advanced Technologies and Theories in Future Convergence Telecommunications"

Recently, rapid technological advancements and changes in various networking technologies such as 4G/5G systems, wireless sensor networks and vehicular networks have been achieved. With the help of these technologies, we can establish ubiquitous convergence networks, which will bring convenience to our lives.

A typical example of a next-generation ubiquitous convergence network is cloud computing, which enables convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

Although these technologies will introduce various convenient services and applications, convergence issues (i.e. energy-efficient network protocol and location privacy in heterogeneous networks) are also raised.

The aim of this special issue to help address this problem, with a focus on recent advanced theories and applications, as well as research, experiments and survey papers on various aspects of ubiquitous convergence networks.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Convergence platforms in future telecommunication networks
• Energy-efficient networking protocol (e.g. energy-efficient routing protocol)
• Issues in electro mobile vehicular networks (e.g. battery charging systems)
• Self-healing and self-optimising networking
• Applications of smart grids (e.g. privacy-preserving billing systems)
• Security and location privacy in ubiquitous convergence networks (e.g. privacy in wireless body area networks)
• Intrusion detection mechanisms in mobile vehicular networks
• Standardisation and interoperability
• Convergence education systems and e-learning

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
