Open source software has rapidly become a global phenomenon. Various existing works have dealt with some aspects of open source software, but have not paid due attention to this emerging issue from the global and, more specifically, cross-cultural perspectives. Cultural differences have influenced corporate strategic and government policy responses to the development and adoption of open source software.

This special issue of IJTM attempts to fill the gap by addressing corporate and government responses to open source software in the global and cross-cultural context. This issue encompasses a wide range of topics in and around open source software. We invite authors to submit their conceptual or empirical papers concerned with open source software in a broad context. This issue particularly encourages interdisciplinary research on open source software.

Subject Coverage
Domains of interest include, but are not certainly limited to, the following:
  • Global and cross-cultural corporate strategies to develop and adopt open source software
  • Competing standards and open source software
  • Global digital divide and open source software
  • Open source software communities
  • Government policies towards open source software in developed and developing countries
  • Intellectual property rights and open source software in emerging economies
