Abstract: This paper presents a mathematical model and its computer solution towards a water pollution control system optimisation case. Firstly, after simplifying and assuming initial conditions, a mixed integer programming model for the urban water pollution facilities system plan problem was proposed according to the principle of minimum total cost of site selection, wastewater disposal and pipeline transport. Then, the model was solved by Lingo 12.0 software. Finally, its stability and application scope were analysed. The results showed that the model is dependable and the optimised running result provides an important reference for relevant decision-making departments.

Keywords: urban water pollution; pollution control planning; computer solutions; system optimisation; mixed integer programming; mathematical modelling; site selection; wastewater disposal; pipeline transport.
