Abstract: Many researchers and practitioners at home and abroad were overwhelmingly amazed by the superficial fact why China has been able to achieve a double-digit economic growth rate for over 20 years. They have taken a keen interest in China-related issues and labelled China as the most typical representative in the |emerging economy|. Actually, Chinese manufacturing has already encountered numerous bottlenecks for further development. The authors of this paper are trying to pierce the mysterious veil of Chinese manufacturing and restore a genuine and realistic condition of Chinese manufacturing. They argue that if China wants to maintain its economic development, it must transform its current manufacturing development mode and implement service-embedded manufacturing (SEM). Otherwise China would plunge itself into a real horrible situation and the accomplishment obtained in the last three decades would topple down overnight.

Keywords: Chinese manufacturing; service-embedded manufacturing; SEM; manufacturing transformation; China; economic development.
